Firefighting is a brotherhood. We may pick on one another because of certain qualities but we all know we all would do anything for each other. The camaraderie is very strong in us and that is what makes us brothers. On an emergency we come together as one to do our job but it is our other interests and hobbies that make us unique. Below are five common stereotypical firefighters we all work with.
This individual spends all of his free time either playing Madden, Call of Duty or Halo. Every once in a while you might get the World of War Craft Guy. These guys bring their XBox or Playstation with them to the FD every shift. Also, they will not let you play their game, it will mess up their stats.
There are actually two different categories for this one:
- Body Builder – The body builder focuses on looking good and being strong. They usually hate crossfitters and unfriend them for crossing over to the “Dark Side”
- Crossfitter – These guys focus on becoming stronger and leaner and bash bodybuilders for being “Meatheads”
A typical argument between these two guys is usually about pull-ups.
We all have the guy who spends most of his down time working on his car. At the station, at home, it doesn’t matter. Whenever he or she has any free time, they are making upgrades on the whip. There are also two different categories for this one too.
1. Car Guy – These guys think all truck guys are idiots
2. Truck Guy – These guys think cars are for girls
I am not saying this is a bad thing but we all have one who lives, sleeps and breathes firefighting. They spends all day looking at firefighting videos on Youtube. They volunteer for community events and they are usually the chiefs favorite. People pick on them for being that way but they are really just envious of their enthusiasm.
This individual is always sleeping, even when they are not supposed to be and what I find to be funny is that they can find the most random places to sleep. For example, under their desk in their bunk room because they don’t think anyone will find them. They always get caught and they always have bed hair.
We all have different hobbies and interest that make us unique but when the bells ring, we work together to kick ass and save lives.
